Kinetic Panels

Opposites attract.

Robert Rochholz’s kinetic panel sculptures incorporate rock, steel, and shiny glass objects that bloom in glossy and vibrant color. The glass and stone objects are wrapped and nested by steel supports that slowly oxidizes over time. The result is a visual mashup between a vintage rust patina and the pristine quality of the glass. The process of creating the kinetic panels is also in tune with how the elements react to their environment.

Multiple panels were installed to create a separation between a private property and the homeowner’s rural road. The artwork maintains an open and airy visual feel but one that continually moves with the wind. The glass, stone and steel all bend and bounce independently from each other while reacting to wind, resulting in movement that is both subtle and hypnotic. The design balances simplicity and chaos to fit the aesthetic desires of the client, and encourages integrating someone’s own elements and artifacts such as family heirlooms, wood or found objects.

An artistic division of space, these hand made fence-like structures can separate areas to keep pets or children away from hazards or for a visual delineation between two spaces, not constrained by conventional standards.
